Fire at Kalmi Lata Market near Dhaka’s Bijoy Sarani intersection was brought under control after nearly two hours of efforts.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of the two‑storey market building around 5:14am on Tuesday.
Eleven units from Tejgaon, Mohammadpur, Mirpur and Siddikbazar fire stations worked to contain the flames, which were brought under control around 7am.
Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told Times of Bangladesh that no casualties had been reported so far.
“Most of the burnt shops were TV and refrigerator servicing outlets,” he said.
The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately, according to fire service sources.
