The death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee during a shoot in Talsari has intensified scrutiny over on-set safety, with industry bodies now calling for strict accountability.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association has alleged that the incident may have resulted from serious lapses in safety protocols rather than being a routine accident. The organisation has urged authorities to initiate criminal proceedings against those linked to the television project ‘Bhole Baba Par Karega’, including the production house and associated broadcaster.
In a strongly worded statement, the body argued that such incidents reflect deeper structural issues within the industry, where cost-cutting measures often come at the expense of worker safety. It claimed that repeated warnings about unsafe working environments have largely gone unaddressed, leading to recurring tragedies involving artists and crew members across film and television sets.
Among its demands, the association has called for a compensation package of Rs1 crore for Rahul’s family, to be borne by the production company and the channel involved. It has also pushed for the blacklisting of those responsible, alongside a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.
The organisation has appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to ensure a comprehensive probe.
