Three people, including a father and his son, were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by a rival group over a land dispute in Madaripur Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Sonapara area of Shirkhara union, where the victims have accused Samchu Sheikh and his associates of carrying out the assault.
According to family members and hospital sources, Akbar Fakir, 50, was working on his farmland when Samchu Sheikh and his group arrived wielding weapons and began verbally abusing him. At one stage, they attacked him, leaving him seriously injured with head wounds.
Hearing his screams, Akbar’s brother Muruddin Fakir rushed to the scene but was also assaulted. During the attack, Muruddin was struck on the head with a sharp weapon, causing him to collapse, bleeding severely.
Muruddin’s son Selim Fakir, 32, was also injured when he tried to rescue his father and was hit with a hammer, leaving him seriously wounded.
Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Madaripur Sadar Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Speaking from the hospital, Selim Fakir said Samchu Sheikh has been threatening them over the land dispute and carried out the attack. He demanded security and proper justice.
Akbar Fakir said the attackers were still issuing death threats and called on the administration to ensure safety and justice.
Attempts to contact accused Samchu Sheikh were unsuccessful.
Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Kalam Azad said police would investigate and take necessary legal action upon receiving a complaint.
