Fashion designer and Uttara University faculty member Farah Deeba organised a T-shirt design workshop and a flag dance event in Dhaka to mark the FIFA World Cup 2026, combining football-themed activities with skills development for underprivileged children.
The event, centred on support for Argentina and Lionel Messi, aimed to promote creativity and entrepreneurship among disadvantaged children by introducing them to design skills that could help them become self-reliant, according to press release.
Farah Deeba, who serves as a part-time teacher and trainer in the Fashion Department at Uttara University, said she regularly organises design workshops to empower children, women and young people through creative education.
She said she had previously arranged an exhibition of selected designs and a fashion show abroad in collaboration with students from Uttara University’s Fashion Department.
The programme was organised with support from FCIC Institute and the Daisy Foundation in collaboration with Lido, a non-profit organisation that works to develop the skills of street children.
Farah, founder of the Daisy Foundation, said the organisation promotes design and entrepreneurial skills among children, young people and women in Bangladesh and abroad to help them generate income from an early stage.
The event received sponsorship from Boaba Fashion, an online customised clothing platform that allocates part of its profits to programmes supporting the economic empowerment of women and children. Logistics support was provided by Golam Saqlain UNIP, while the Daisy Foundation sponsored gifts for participants.
Farah Deeba is also an internationally recognised contemporary dancer and trainer. She recently received an award from KIFF Thailand after performing a flag dance in traditional Jamdani attire while carrying the Bangladeshi flag.
She has also conducted training sessions for Mongolian students at an international cultural dance festival and received the NTV Global Achievers Awrd in recognition of her work as a fashion designer.
She has been invited to participate in international fashion shows and exhibitions, including the Malaysian International Mr & Beauty Pageant, where she is scheduled to receive the International Fashion Designer Award.
Farah first gained widespread attention during the FIFA World Cup when her flag dance at Lionel Messi’s opening match attracted more than three million views on social media. She continued performing flag dances in support of Argentina throughout the tournament, receiving extensive coverage from television channels and other media outlets.
