Ahead of the 13th National Parliament election and referendum, postal ballots sent by expatriate voters have begun arriving in the country.
By Tuesday morning, more than 21,500 postal ballots had reached Bangladesh.
Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the Election Commission’s ‘OCV-SDI’ project, confirmed the figure to the media.
He said that as of 10:30am on Tuesday, a total of 21,508 postal ballots has arrived.
He added that Bangladesh had sent ballots to a total of 7.67 lakh expatriate voters to ensure their voting rights.
According to the latest update, 4.94 lakh expatriates received the ballots, 4.26 lakh cast their votes, and 3.70 lakh ballots have been returned to the respective foreign post offices after voting.
The Election Commission has urged expatriates to cast their votes promptly and return them to the nearest post office.
Under the rules, all ballots must reach the office of the returning officer by 4:30pm on 12 February. Any ballots received after the deadline will not be counted.
