A court in Dhaka has granted a five-day remand for former state minister for Chittagong hill tracts affairs Dipankar Talukder in connection with the murder of businessman Md Monir during the July uprising at Shahbagh.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Mia granted a five-day remand after the investigating officer of the case and Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulok produced the accused before the court and sought a ten-day remand.

According to the case statement, on 5 August, 2024, during the July movement, businessman Md Monir, who was participating in the protest with students and the public in Chankharpul area of Shahbagh, was shot dead at the scene allegedly by assailants linked to the accused.
The victim’s wife, Rozina Akter, filed the murder case on 14 March with the police station. The case names 351 individuals in the charge sheet and 500 others as unidentified accused.
