In an upcoming opinion poll, it has been found that 70 per cent of people want to vote for BNP in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election. The same survey indicates that 19 per cent of people will vote for the Jamaat-e-Islami.
The private organisation Eminence Associates for Social Development (EASD) conducted the opinion poll.
On Monday afternoon, EASD’s Chief Executive Officer, Shamim Haider Talukdar, presented the survey results at an event held at the KIB auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka.
The survey was conducted by collecting opinions from a total of 20,495 people from 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country.
The survey was conducted from 20 December of last year to January 1 of this year.
Presenting the findings of the survey report, Shamim Haider Talukdar said, in response to the question of who they would vote for in the upcoming election, 70 per cent of people stated they would vote for BNP.
19 per cent of people stated they would vote for Jamaat-e-Islami. 2.6 per cent of people wish to vote for NCP. 5 per cent of people stated they would vote for other parties. And 0.2 per cent of people stated they would not vote at all.
Participants in the survey were asked a total of four questions. In response to the question, “Which party will form the government?”, 77 per cent of people said that they believe BNP will form the government.
17 per cent of people believe Jamaat-e-Islami will form the government. And over 1 per cent of people believe NCP will form the government.
In response to the question “Who will win the upcoming election?”, 74 per cent of people believe BNP will win.
18 per cent of people believe Jamaat-e-Islami will win. 1.7 per cent believe NCP will win. Additionally, just over 1 per cent of people said that Jatiya Party will win.
In response to the question “Whom did you vote for or intend to vote for in the last election?”, 35 per cent of people stated they wanted to vote for BNP.
27 per cent of people stated they voted or wanted to vote for Awami League. Furthermore, over 5 per cent of people stated they wanted to vote for Jamaat-e-Islami.
The event was chaired by Kazi Saifuddin Bennoor, advisor to Eminence Associates for Social Development.
Panelists who spoke as discussants include democracy and institutional expert Mir Nadia Nivin, former member of the Bangladesh Election Reform Commission and former officer of EASD, Professor of Development Studies at Dhaka University Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Coordinator of Voice for Reform Fahim Mashroor, chief editor of Dhaka Stream, and climate and environment reporting expert Iftikhar Mahmud.
