European Union Ambassador to Dhaka Michael Miller on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the Secretariat, with both sides expressing interest in further expanding and strengthening their mutual partnership.
The meeting at the minister’s office at noon discussed various aspects of enhancing cooperation between Bangladesh and the EU.
The local government minister expressed particular interest in utilising the EU’s experience in Bangladesh’s water management sector.
“If a joint experience exchange programme is launched in this sector, it would be highly beneficial for Bangladesh,” the minister said.
Ambassador Michael Miller described Bangladesh as a reliable and tested development partner of the EU, informing that the EU is interested in further deepening and expanding existing cooperation.
The meeting covered various important issues, including decentralisation of governance, e-governance development, progress in the infrastructure sector, and sustainable development.
Both sides expressed optimism that development cooperation between Bangladesh and the EU would be further energised in the future through joint initiatives and partnership.
Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Shahidul Hasan and Secretary of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Md Shawkat Rashid Chowdhury, along with senior ministry officials and heads of subordinate departments, were present.
