A delegation of European Union (EU) ambassadors visited Apex Footwear Limited’s factory in Shafipur, Gazipur, to observe sustainability practices and advanced manufacturing standards in Bangladesh’s footwear and leather sector, the company said in a press release.
The delegation, led by EU Ambassador Michael Miller, toured the facility as part of a broader European Union initiative aimed at promoting sustainability across industries. German Ambassador Rüdiger Lotz and Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro also joined the visit.
The diplomats visited the Apex Tannery Unit, described by the company as Bangladesh’s first Leather Working Group Gold-rated facility, before touring footwear production lines equipped with advanced manufacturing technology.
During the visit, the delegation observed renewable energy integration, design capabilities and the company’s skilled workforce, while European technology used in the production process drew particular attention from the visiting envoys.
EU Ambassador Michael Miller described the visit as a reflection of the strong relationship between Europe and Bangladesh’s industrial sector, according to the press release.
Apex Footwear Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur said the company was pleased to showcase Bangladesh’s manufacturing standards to its European partners.
“We are proud to open our doors to our European partners and show them what Bangladeshi manufacturing can achieve through a strong commitment to quality and sustainability,” he said.
“This visit reflects the trust Europe places in us, and we intend to keep earning it,” he added.
The delegation praised Apex for environmental stewardship, operational excellence, inclusive and diverse management practices, and world-class design capabilities, the company said.
OSHE Foundation Project Head Alam Hossain coordinated the visit, while Apex Footwear General Manager of International Business Md Nasrullah was also present during the programme held last week.
