Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday announced that the upcoming national election will be held before Ramadan, stating that all preparations have been completed.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Patuakhali Circuit House around 12:30pm, he said relevant security forces have already been instructed to maintain law and order across the country.
“The election will be held before the upcoming Ramadan. All preparations have been completed. The forces have been instructed to maintain stability on the ground,” he said.
The meeting reviewed the overall security situation ahead of the polls, including field-level readiness, public safety, the law and order environment and special surveillance in tourist areas.
“No kind of instability will be allowed around the election. Ensuring people’s voting rights and creating a safe environment are the government’s main priorities,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the adviser visited the Patuakhali Police Lines, where he spoke with members of the force and issued directives on law and order management, preventive patrols, river-route security and cyber monitoring.
He later visited the Coast Guard Base and discussed coastal security, fishermen’s safety and preventing crimes along sea routes.
At 4pm, he inspected the Tourist Police and Naval Police camp in Kuakata. With the winter tourist season ahead, he instructed the forces to enhance security, ensure smooth movement of tourists, strengthen traffic management and remain alert to risks along the coastline.
On Sunday morning, he will visit the Mahipur fish landing station and Mahipur Police Station before heading to Barishal. There, he will provide guidance on tackling sea-related crimes, ensuring fishermen’s safety, strengthening control systems at the landing station and improving law and order during the tourism season.
Calling the Patuakhali–Kuakata belt one of the top attractions for local and foreign tourists, he said the government is prioritising security in the region.
Measures now include increased coastal patrols, naval operations, CCTV surveillance and deploying additional forces in vulnerable areas.
The adviser was accompanied by his private secretary, the deputy chief information officer (director), assistant private secretary and personal officer. Officials said the primary purpose of the visit was to review law and order progress in the coastal region and reinforce security ahead of the national election.
