Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has issued a stern directive prohibiting the practice of having students stand along the roads to greet ministers or guests.
The directive came during a speech at an award ceremony for winners of the National Education Week in Kachuya, Chandpur, on Friday.
The minister’s strong stance followed an incident where he saw students standing by the roadside to greet him while he was en route to the event.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, education minister stated, “No student should be made to stand in the sun or by the roadside to welcome anyone.”
He emphasised that no teacher or educational institution would be permitted to organise such arrangements in the future. “I don’t need any greetings that cause students discomfort. Teachers must ensure that students are sent home promptly, and they should never be made to stand on the road,” he said.
The minister also reassured students, saying, “I will personally visit schools to meet with you. There’s no need for students to stand outside for such greetings.”
The minister later talked with the students, inquiring about their studies and future plans.
Local officials, including Kachuya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan Russell and Officer-in-Charge of Kachuya police Mohammad Borhan Uddin, were present at the ceremony.
