The Election Commission (EC) will henceforth process only Category ‘Gha’ applications for National Identity (NID) card corrections, officials said on Monday.
According to a notification signed by Director (Operations) of the National Identity Registration Wing Md Saiful Islam, applications under Categories ‘K-1’, ‘K’, ‘Kh-1’, ‘Kh’, ‘Ga-1’ and ‘Ga’ will be disposed of by designated field-level election officials.
The notification stated that, except for Category ‘Gha’ applications—which will be handled at the Director General level all NID correction services under the mentioned categories at the Election Training Institute building will remain suspended until further instructions.
It further said that responsibility for disposing of applications has been distributed among field-level election officers.
Under the revised arrangement, Category ‘K-1’ applications will be handled by Assistant Thana/Upazila Election Officers, while Category ‘K’ applications will be processed by Thana/Upazila Election Officers.
Category ‘Kh-1’ applications will be dealt with by Additional District Election Officers, and Category ‘Kh’ applications by District Election Officers.
Similarly, Category ‘Ga-1’ applications will be processed by Additional Regional Election Officers, while Category ‘Ga’ applications will be handled by Regional Election Officers.
