Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has sought the cooperation of the international community for the safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya population to their homeland, Myanmar.
The minister made the request during a meeting with a high-level joint mission from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The joint mission was led by Kelly T Clements, Deputy High Commissioner of UNHCR, and Rania Dagash-Kamara, Assistant Executive Director of WFP.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, and high-ranking donor representatives from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the European Commission.
The mission is being conducted to coordinate Rohingya humanitarian assistance activities more effectively and to ensure a sustainable solution for the Rohingya by planning for the improvement of the internal situation in Myanmar.
Md Saidur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, along with other senior officials of the ministry, was also present at the meeting.
