Police recovered the body of a man from inside the Assistant High Commission of India in Khulshi area of Chattogram on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Naren Dhar, 38.
Acting on information, a police team arrived at the scene around 9:30am to recover the body. It was subsequently transported to the Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner for the north division Amirul Islam confirmed that the incident occurred within the mission’s premises.
He stated that the police have completed the necessary legal formalities and that, according to preliminary assessments, the death appears to be natural.
However, he directed further enquiries regarding the specifics of the incident to the mission authorities.
Police sources indicate that Naren Dhar is believed to have been an employee of the office.
Official confirmation regarding the cause of death is still awaited, and the police have not yet formally disclosed whether any injury marks or evidence of suspicious activity were discovered at the scene
Investigating officers have noted that the exact cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem report is available.
Efforts to obtain a statement or further details regarding Naren Dhar’s identity and specific duties from the Assistant High Commission of India were unsuccessful. There was no immediate response from the mission, and phone calls to the office number went unanswered.
According to eyewitnesses, a police presence was noticed in front of the mission early in the morning, followed shortly after by an ambulance removing the body from the premises.
