Independent candidate for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency Rumin Farhana on Saturday said a vote for the “Duck” symbol would be a vote for the people and against injustice.
She made the remarks while addressing a street meeting at Shahbazpur Bazar in Sarail Upazila, saying the symbol represents development and the people’s victory.
Farhana urged her supporters to cast their votes on 12 February and remain at polling centres until counting is completed.
She asked voters to guard their respective polling stations, noting that as she does not have the backing of a large political party or committee, safeguarding votes depends on the people themselves.
Farhana is contesting the election as an independent after Bangladesh Nationalist Party expelled her for defying party decisions.
The BNP had allocated the Brahmanbaria-2 seat to its alliance partner Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, whose Central Vice-President Junayed Al Habib is the alliance candidate.
The Brahmanbaria-2 constituency comprises 19 unions, including nine in Sarail Upazila, eight in Ashuganj Upazila and two in Bijoynagar Upazila.
Local leaders present at the rally included Sarail Upazila Sramik Dal President Ayub Hossain Sardar, former Sarail Upazila BNP Vice-President Hossain Mia, former Upazila Chatra Dal General Secretary Usman Khan and former Upazila Jubo Dal Organising Secretary Abdul Barek.
