The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a series of initiatives to ensure safe, hassle-free travel for passengers returning home during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

The move includes strict management of bus terminals, eviction of illegal ticket counters, and improvements to passenger facilities.

An emergency meeting chaired by DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam was held on Tuesday at Nagar Bhaban, attended by representatives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, bus owners’ associations, and workers’ committees of the Sayedabad Inter-district Bus Terminal.

The measures taken to ease congestion around the bus terminal ahead of the Eid travel rush are:

All illegal ticket counters and roadside shops from Sayedabad Bridge to TT Para will be removed following official notices, while unauthorised shops inside the terminal will be cleared through rapid enforcement drives.

Ticket counters within the terminal will now be allocated exclusively to legitimate bus companies under a transparent policy framework. The DSCC, bus owners, and the police traffic division will jointly supervise the allocation process.

Buses will be restricted to five designated bays, with a maximum waiting time of 20 to 30 minutes for passenger boarding.

To improve traveler experience, new facilities-including an information desk and a breastfeeding room-will be established. Pending renovations, toilet repairs, and waterlogging issues are also slated for completion before the holiday rush.

Bus owners have been instructed to strictly adhere to government-approved fares to prevent overcharging during the holiday season.

In addition, abandoned buses inside the terminal will be seized and removed by the traffic division to help reduce congestion in and around the terminal.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam stressed that the city corporation, police, bus owners, and workers will work together to implement all measures, ensuring both passenger comfort and long-term traffic solutions.

Earlier on Tuesday, the 12th board meeting of the DSCC management committee, presided over by the new administrator, was held at Nagar Bhaban.

Members welcomed the administrator, expressing confidence in his leadership to advance the government’s vision of a “Green city, clean city.”
