10 JU researchers make world’s top 2% scientists list

Ten teachers and researchers from Jahangirnagar University (JU) have been included in the list of the world’s top 2 per cent scientists for 2026.

In the ranking, JU secured 10th position among universities and research institutions in Bangladesh.

The 2026 edition of the list was jointly published by US-based Stanford University and Netherlands-based publishing organisation Elsevier on Wednesday (7 October).

The JU researchers featured on the list are AA Mamun, Md Saiful Islam, Md Sharafat Chowdhury, SM Didar-Ul Islam, Md Al-Amin Khan, Md Mostafizur Rahman, Sharmin Sultana, M Shamim Kaiser, Mohammad Sharif Uddin and Abu Bakar Siddique.

The list was compiled by assessing various aspects of the researchers’ scientific contributions. The evaluation considered indicators such as the number of publications, citations received by research papers, h-index, continuity of research and the research impact of co-authors.

The ranking is regarded globally as an important benchmark for assessing researchers’ scientific contributions and the impact of their work.

JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Md Shamsul Alam expressed satisfaction with the achievement, saying the inclusion of 10 university teachers and researchers on the list was international recognition of their talent and research.

He said the recognition would further enrich the university’s research environment and inspire the next generation of researchers to pursue quality research.

He congratulated the researchers and expressed hope that their work would bring further recognition to the university and the country.
