The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has officially launched the distribution of waste management materials among citizens to facilitate the proper and eco-friendly disposal of sacrificial animal waste during the upcoming Holy Eid-ul-Adha.

The initiative was formally inaugurated Friday in the capital’s Elephant Road area by Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator and Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam.

He urged city dwellers to cooperate with the authorities, saying, “Please pack the sacrificial waste in the provided bags and leave them at designated spots; DSCC workers will collect them in the shortest possible time”.

The administrator issued a stern warning against dumping sacrificial waste into drains or sewers, emphasising that such actions would spread diseases and pathogens while causing severe waterlogging in the event of rain.

The core waste removal drive is scheduled to commence at 12:00 PM on Eid day. “We have set a target to completely remove all sacrificial waste from the first day within the subsequent 8 hours,” the administrator announced, seeking full cooperation from residents to achieve this goal.

The distribution campaign began with the handover of materials to representatives of the “Hridoiye Elephant Road Society.”

DSCC has informed the public that citizens can collect these biodegradable bags and bleaching powder from their respective Ward Offices or through the Primary Waste Collection Service Providers (PCSP) responsible for household garbage collection in their areas.
