According to a complaint filed by her brother Jotindar Singh, Inder Kaur had left home around 8:30pm on May 13 to go shopping but never returned. The family initially suspected a man identified as Sukhwinder Singh, also known as Sukh, a resident of Moga’s Bhaloor village, alleging that he had been pressuring her to marry him.

The complaint states that the two had first met on Instagram around three years ago and later developed a relationship. However, after learning that Sukhwinder was already married and had children, Inder Kaur reportedly cut off contact and rejected his marriage proposal.

Police suspect that on May 13, Sukhwinder Singh and his associates intercepted her vehicle, abducted her at gunpoint and later killed her before dumping the body in the canal.

Investigators also believe that before the incident, she had travelled from Canada to Punjab via Nepal and the accused may have fled back to Canada after the crime.

Her family has alleged that timely police action could have saved her life. A case was registered on May 15 at Jamalpur police station against Sukhwinder Singh and his associate Karamjit Singh.

According to police, a case has been filed under relevant sections of the law and efforts are underway to arrest the accused and his accomplices.
