Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam on Sunday said the city authority is taking steps to use more effective insecticides to strengthen mosquito control in the capital.
He said the administration has already started the tender process to procure new fogger machines. He added that the current authority is giving top priority to public safety and health, addressing past limitations.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the newly renamed Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur Road by unveiling its nameplate in Dhaka.
The 530-metre road, stretching from Bangabazar intersection to Gulistan Golap Shah Mazar, was earlier known as Phoenix Road.
Focusing on public health, Abdus Salam said preparations have been strengthened in advance to prevent dengue and chikungunya outbreaks. He said Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean water and stressed that public awareness is crucial. He urged city residents to keep homes, yards and rooftops clean and ensure no stagnant water remains anywhere.
On the road renaming, he said Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur was a renowned Islamic scholar and thinker in Bangladesh. The road has been named in recognition of his religious, social and political contributions. He expressed hope that his ideals and work would inspire future generations.
He also said the initiative was carried out following requests from local religious leaders and public demand, with approval and guidance from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
