The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered a progress report by 26 July in a case over the July uprising, filed against Toufique‑e‑Elahi Chowdhury, former prime minister’s adviser on power, energy and mineral resources, and 11 others.
ICT‑1 passed the order on Sunday, Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam confirmed.
The court also heard the bail petition of the accused. His lawyers argued that superior responsibility does not rest on him, as he was only an adviser and does not fall within the criteria of the charges.
They said the investigation has not been completed even after a long time and sought bail considering his age and health.
Lawyers Sheikh Ali Ahmed Khokon and Md Asaduzzaman Asad represented Toufique‑e‑Elahi.
Chief Prosecutor said the investigation report would be submitted soon and sought more time. The tribunal then ordered a progress report by the next hearing date, when the bail plea will also be heard and decided.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaq, Shajahan Khan, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Dipu Moni, and Golam Dastagir Gazi, are among the other accused.
