President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday urged key stakeholders in the country’s apparel industry, including the BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA, to work together to overcome the sector’s ongoing challenges.
He made the call during a meeting with a delegation of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), led by its President Mohammad Hatem, at Bangabhaban.
President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed journalists following the meeting.
During the discussion, Mirza Fakhrul stressed the need for coordinated efforts to sustain the country’s economic growth while ensuring that the benefits of development are shared fairly among stakeholders.
He said the government has introduced business-, industry- and economy-friendly policies aimed at strengthening the national economy, creating jobs and helping businesses recover and expand.
“Growing industries and businesses need necessary protection to remain sustainable,” the President said, highlighting the importance of lowering bank lending rates to boost investment.
He also encouraged apparel industry owners to consider alternative sources of energy, including solar power, as part of efforts to cope with the country’s continuing energy crisis.
The President said the government is working to maintain momentum in the country’s economic growth.
He also acknowledged the significant contribution of knitwear manufacturers and exporters to the country’s foreign exchange earnings and expressed his appreciation for their role.
Speaking about the restoration of democracy, Mirza Fakhrul said national problems should be addressed through democratic means and discussions in Parliament.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary were present at the meeting.
