Abu Saleh Akon has been re-elected president and Mainul Hasan Sohel general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the organisation’s annual election held on Sunday.
Election Commission chairman and senior journalist M A Aziz announced the results after the vote count.
Voting took place from 9am to 5pm at the DRU’s Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium in Segunbagicha.
Mehedi Azad Masum was elected vice-president, Zafar Iqbal joint secretary, Niaz Mahmud Sohel finance secretary, M M Jasim organisational secretary, Rashim Molla office secretary, Jannatul Ferdous Panna women affairs secretary, Mizan Chowdhury publicity and publication secretary, Mahmud Sohel information technology and training secretary, Omar Faruk Rubel sports secretary, Monowar Hossain cultural secretary, Aminul Haque Bhuiya hospitality secretary and Rafiq Mridha welfare secretary.
For the seven executive member posts, Akhtar Hossain, Ali Azam, Mahfuz Sadi, Al-Amin Azad, Mohammad Naeemuddin, Suman Chowdhury, and Abdul Alim and Mazharul Islam—who received the same number of votes were elected.
