The Chattogram Port Authority has inaugurated a booth-based gate pass issuance system at five of its gates to simplify and accelerate the process for vehicles entering the port area.
The programme was launched on Friday morning, at the port’s overflow booth. Ahmed Amin Abdullah, Acting Chairman and Member (Harbour and Marine) of the Chattogram Port Authority, officiated the inauguration.
According to a press release issued by Chief Personnel Officer Nasir Uddin, the country’s premier seaport is a first-class Key Point Installation (KPI) that operates under the international security framework of the ISPS Code.
As approximately 92 per cent of the nation’s import and export activities are managed through this port, the authority has been progressively automating various operations to ensure security, operational efficiency, and increased capacity.
Under this automation initiative, vehicle gate passes are currently issued online through Terminal Operating System (TOS) apps following the payment of prescribed fees. However, drivers and helpers arriving from across the country have encountered difficulties in obtaining online passes due to technical limitations.
The port authority further noted that vehicles parked near the gates while awaiting pass collection were causing traffic congestion and hampering import-export operations.
To address these challenges, the authority has introduced direct gate pass issuance via container-based booths installed at five gates. These booths are managed under the supervision of the port’s security department.
The initiative is expected to reduce the difficulties faced by drivers and transport workers while enhancing the dynamism of port operations.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials and employees from various port departments, alongside leaders from the transport sector.
