The Dragon Ball franchise is set to return with a new anime project titled ‘Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Saga’, marking its first major announcement since ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ concluded in 2025.
The new project was officially revealed at the Genkidamatsuri conference, where a brief teaser showed Goku and Vegeta with updated character designs, standing before the Galactic Patrol insignia. While details remain limited, the announcement has confirmed that the story will adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc from the Dragon Ball Super manga.
According to the released synopsis, the new instalment will bring the popular manga storyline to the screen for the first time. The arc follows the events of ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly’, raising questions about whether the anime will closely follow the manga or connect more directly to the later film ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’. It is also yet to be clarified whether the project will be developed as a television series or a feature film.
The adaptation has been welcomed by fans, as the ‘Galactic Patrol Prisoner’ arc is widely regarded as one of the strongest storylines in the Dragon Ball Super manga. The project also signals a possible stylistic shift, with expectations that the animation will return to a traditional 2D format following the 3D approach used in Super Hero.
Significantly, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Saga will be the first new Dragon Ball production announced since the death of franchise creator Akira Toriyama in 2024.
