A case has been filed against the chairman and managing director of real estate company Concord Group after a man was killed when an iron rod fell on his head from a building in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
Sirajul Islam Talukder, the father-in-law of victim Md Ashfakuzzaman Chowdhury Piplu, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on Sunday.
Concord Group Chairman SM Kamal Uddin, 72, Managing Director Shahriar Kamal, 45, and 10–12 unidentified people were accused in the case. The accident occurred on Road No. 140 in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon.
Sirajul Islam Talukder said, “We demand a proper investigation and exemplary punishment. We learned that just a few days ago, a tin sheet from the same building fell and injured another person’s forehead.”
He further questioned, “Why would a reputed company carry out high-rise construction without any safety measures?”
He said the company’s negligence caused his son-in-law’s death, leaving the 11-year-old child’s future uncertain.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-charge Rakibul Hasan said the investigation is ongoing, the site has been inspected, and action will be taken against those found responsible.
According to the case statement, Ashfakuzzaman had come out of his office and was chatting with colleagues on the footpath when construction work was underway on the 25th floor of the “Concord MBR Skyline” building.
Due to inadequate safety measures, an iron rod fell directly onto his head. He was rushed to Gulshan United Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Ashfakuzzaman worked as a Logistics Manager at multinational company GE Healthcare Technologies in Gulshan. His ancestral home is in Barumchhara of Chattogram’s Banshkhali.
