The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stepped up security across the country ahead of Janmashtami, which will be celebrated on Friday by the Hindu community.
In a statement issued on Thursday, RAB said adequate personnel had been deployed at temples, puja venues, event sites and other important locations to ensure security during the celebrations.
The elite force said it is prepared to respond to any untoward incident and was working in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, local administration and intelligence agencies.
Regular patrols have been increased in different areas, while plainclothes intelligence surveillance has also been strengthened. Reserve forces have been kept ready for deployment if required.
Each RAB battalion has prepared security plans after assessing potential threats in its respective area, the statement said.
Intelligence gathering through local sources and informants has also been intensified.
RAB said it was closely monitoring the activities of extremist groups, banned organisations and other groups that might attempt to create unrest during the festival.
Special security measures have also been taken for important persons, religious leaders, priests and foreign nationals, it said.
RAB has made additional security arrangements for Janmashtami processions. Personnel will be deployed at the front and rear of the processions and on both sides.
Cyber patrolling has also been intensified to detect rumours, misinformation and provocative or misleading posts, comments and images on social media that could disrupt communal harmony.
RAB urged people to celebrate Janmashtami peacefully and safely. It also requested the public to alert the nearest law enforcement agency about any suspicious person, object or activity.
