All candidates participating in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) polls will have to undergo dope tests. An official letter has been submitted to the university administration, urging necessary arrangements to carry out these dope tests.
Dr Md Moniruzzaman, the chief election commissioner of JUCSU polls, made the announcement on Tuesday night.
Moniruzzaman said, “Two days ago, we held a meeting with the candidates in the presence of regular students. While dope testing was not part of our initial plan, after reviewing the students’ demands and feedback, the Election Commission unanimously decided to introduce it.
“An official letter has already been forwarded to the university administration, requesting the necessary arrangements to conduct dope tests for all eligible candidates before the elections.”
On August 31, the JUCSU Election Commission convened a meeting with the candidates, aiming to address strategies for fostering a healthier, more transparent, and broadly acceptable electoral environment on campus – reflecting growing concerns over credibility and fairness in the upcoming polls.
It should be noted that the long awaited JUSCU election is going to be held after three decades on September 11, 2025.
