Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has filed a case over an attack on its eviction team in Mirpur-1 and damage to government vehicles during the operation on 9 December.
The case names 31 individuals and 200–250 others yet to be identified.
The complaint was lodged on 12 December at Mirpur Shah Ali Police Station. Surveyor Md Taslim Hossain filed the case on behalf of DNCC under Penal Code sections 143, 186, 332, 333, 307, 353 and 427.
According to the complaint, the eviction drive began at around 1:50pm on 9 December.
Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Nelly led the operation in Mirpur Section-13 to clear footpaths and paved roads near the Shaheed Minar, playgrounds, and children’s parks.
Officers and staff from DNCC’s Property Division, Court-1 and Zone-2 participated.
During the operation, a group of 200–250 people, including the 31 named in the case, attacked the team with iron rods and bamboo sticks. They threw bricks and debris at the officials and obstructed the eviction.
The attackers allegedly tried to kill members of the executive magistrate’s team.
The mob damaged government vehicles, including the magistrate’s car, two payloaders, and a backhoe loader, causing losses estimated at Tk13,80,000.
Several DNCC employees, including Magistrate Nelly’s driver Md Raju Mia, loader drivers Royal and Abed, and cleaners, were injured in the attack.
The complaint stated the case was delayed due to the time needed to treat the injured and identify the attackers.
A DNCC official said the attack on a public interest eviction operation was “extremely regrettable.” Authorities have taken steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.
