The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have once again issued instructions to keep vehicle movement controlled on the campus for a specific time.
In an urgent notice from the university proctor’s office, it was announced that this directive will come into effect from Sunday.
The notice said that a decision has been taken to reintroduce control on vehicle movement on campus in the interest of students’ overall safety.
Specific rules and a schedule have been set for vehicle entry into the DU campus. On Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, entry to the campus will be controlled from 3pm to 10pm, and on working days from 6pm to 10pm.
During this time, only vehicles with DU stickers and emergency service vehicles will be allowed to enter through the Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, Burn Unit, Shibbari Crossing, Fuller Road, Palashi Mor and Nilkhet entry points.
Emergency services include ambulances, vehicles transporting doctors and patients, journalists, ride-sharing services, food delivery, online shopping and other government vehicles. Apart from these, entry of all other personal or private vehicles will be restricted during this period.
However, the entry of public transport and heavy vehicles will remain controlled at all times, meaning they will not be allowed to enter the university area without special permission.
Earlier, in December last year, the university administration had issued a similar directive. Then, in April this year, the university authorities once again instructed controlled vehicle movement for a specific time.
