The University of Dhaka’s Department of Islamic Studies hosted a prize distribution ceremony on Tuesday, recognizing winners of an intra-department debate competition organized by its Debating Club.
Held at the R. C. Majumdar Arts Auditorium, the event featured Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), who served as chief guest and presented awards to the successful students.
In his address, Professor Dr. Ahmed underscored the critical role of co-curricular activities in developing skilled professionals. He emphasized that debate cultivates logical reasoning and builds confidence, urging students to become self-reliant individuals capable of driving social change.
The ceremony was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Sanaullah, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies. Distinguished attendees included Professor Dr. Muhammad Zahirul Islam, Moderator of the departmental Debating Club; Zubair Hossain, President of the Dhaka University Debating Society; and Ragib Anjum, its General Secretary.
Professor Dr. Md. Masud Alam of the department and M. M. Al Minhaj, DUCSU Health and Environment Secretary, offered congratulatory remarks. The proceedings were conducted by Saifuddin Bin Muzaffar, General Secretary of the Islamic Studies Department Debating Club.
The champion team comprised Md. Kamrul Islam, Nafe Bin Mamun, and Mohammad Shahed Hossain Imon. The runner-up team included Md. Siam Haydar, Taufika Arafat Roz, and Muhammad Moinuddin Gaus. Nafe Bin Mamun received the Best Debater award for the final round.
