Dhaka Pratidin’s special correspondent Hafizur Rahman known as HR Shafik has been detained in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act.
A police team led by Shahbagh Police Station Sub‑inspector Ziaul arrested him from Moghbazar on Tuesday night.
Dhaka Pratidin Editor Manjurul Bari Noyon confirmed the arrest.
According to family members and colleagues, Shafik made a report on corruption within the Fire Service syndicate.
Shortly after the report on irregularities in the Fire Service and Civil Defence was published, a case was filed against him at Shahbagh Police Station.
Journalist associations condemned the arrest and demanded his immediate release, describing the arrest as a serious blow to independent journalism and press freedom.
