Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has constituted a senior-level committee tasked with reviewing and resolving various obstacles currently impacting the nation’s textile industry.
The committee’s formation was announced following a Wednesday meeting at Secretariat between Tarique and representatives from Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA). Details of the session were shared by Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
During the dialogue, BTMA representatives provided an overview of the industry’s status, highlighting its significant export prospects alongside the difficulties it faces. The delegation underscored the sector’s vital role in the national economy and requested government assistance to ensure its long-term viability.
Additionally, they called for policy interventions from the prime minister to bolster the industry’s standing in the international market.
In response, Tarique commended the textile sector for its contributions to national industrialisation, the creation of employment, and the generation of export revenue. He assured the gathered leaders that the government would provide steadfast support for the industry’s ongoing advancement.
The meeting was attended by a delegation including BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell, Vice-President Shamim Islam, and former president A Matin Chowdhury.
Other notable participants were former director Syed Enayet Kabir, Engineer Razeeb Haider, and Directors Chowdhury Mohammad Hanif Soaib and Mohammad Badsha Mia. Also present were Helal Mia, chairman of Amanat Shah Group, and Samiul Islam, managing director of Munnu Fabrics.
