National University (NU) is set to hold its second convocation on 23 January 2027 following a long wait.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who serves as the chancellor of the university, has given his consent to attend the ceremony.
A high-level meeting was held on Monday at the university’s main campus in Gazipur to oversee preparations for the event.
The meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah, formed a convocation management committee and various sub-committees based on feedback from participants to ensure smooth and successful organisation.
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Ali Zinnah, Treasurer Professor Md Nazmul Hossain, and Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, alongside deans of various faculties and department heads.
Earlier on Sunday, a university delegation led by the vice-chancellor paid a courtesy call on the at Bangabhaban. During the visit, Amanullah formally invited the president to attend the second convocation as chancellor.
This long-awaited convocation carries special significance for students as the university, which connects higher education across nearly 2,500 colleges nationwide, holds the event after a 10-year hiatus.
Enthusiasm has already built up among students and graduates, with university authorities expecting a grand event featuring a massive turnout of graduates.
