A devastating fire broke out late Saturday night at Jaliyapara Bazaar in Guimara Upazila, Khagrachari, causing widespread destruction.
According to local businesses, at least 19 shops, including Ismail Market, were destroyed in the blaze.
Fire Service officials reported that the fire started around 1:45 AM on Saturday night and rapidly spread through the area. Fire units from Ramgarh and Matiranga, with assistance from local residents, worked together to control the fire. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Army units also joined efforts to extinguish the flames. The fire was brought under control by approximately 3 AM.
The affected businesses include motor garages, electronics shops, furniture outlets, and grocery stores. Initial estimates suggest the fire may have been caused by a vehicle workshop or an electric short circuit.
Commander of the Sindukchhari Zone of the Army and the Guimara Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) visited the fire-damaged area for an assessment.
