Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Kaiser Kamal on Monday underscored the importance of the Parliament Library in delivering objective bulletins and reliable information to support parliamentary activities.
During a visit to the Parliament Library, the Deputy Speaker reviewed its operations and discussed the preservation of daily news clippings, local and international newspapers, academic journals, and records of parliamentary debates.
He also highlighted the significance of maintaining historical parliamentary documents, including the British parliamentary debate archive Hansard, as valuable resources for lawmakers and researchers.
Kaiser Kamal emphasised the need to strengthen and expedite the library’s activities through better coordination among relevant departments and sections, including public works authorities.
He directed officials to ensure the regular and systematic preservation of government gazettes and the legal reference series DLR (Dhaka Law Reports).
The meeting also discussed measures to ensure the full and effective use of the library by members of parliament through greater engagement and participation.
Under parliamentary rules of procedure, the Deputy Speaker serves as the chair of the Library Committee.
Senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present during the visit.
