Anee seeks ADB support for sustainable water resource management

Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today sought continued cooperation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in sustainable water resource management and riverbank protection in Bangladesh.

“The government is interested in working with ADB to strengthen quality economic cooperation,” he said.

The minister expressed the hope during a meeting with ADB Executive Director Satya Srinivas Lolla at the Ministry of Water Resources at the Secretariat today. State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad was present at the meeting.

Welcoming the ADB executive director to Bangladesh, the minister expressed hope that the ADB would play a more effective role in promoting sustainable growth, enhancing capacity to tackle disasters, expanding regional cooperation and improving people’s quality of life.

State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad said the Asian Development Bank is a trusted development partner of Bangladesh. He urged the ADB to strengthen cooperation in exchanging experiences in water resource management, education, technical cooperation, training to enhance professional skills, and research.

The ADB executive director said the organization is working to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh and formulate a new Country Partnership Strategy.

He said the ADB is interested in working on sustainable water resource management, riverbank protection and erosion prevention.

Additional Secretary of the ministry Khondkar Azim Uddin, Additional Secretary Md. Enamul Haque and senior ADB officials were present at the meeting.
