In the past 24 hours, four more people have died due to dengue, pushing the total number of deaths this year to 251. Among the deceased, three are women, and one is a man.
The victims were undergoing treatment at various hospitals, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital in the capital, and Galachipa Upazila Health Complex in Patuakhali.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, 814 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals from 8am Monday to 8 am Tuesday, bringing the total number of hospital admissions this year to 61,605.
The statement also highlighted the spread of the disease across the country. In Dhaka’s two city corporation areas alone, 277 new cases were identified.
Other areas saw significant numbers as well, with 121 new cases in Dhaka Division, 46 in Mymensingh, 114 in Chittagong, 40 each in Khulna and Rajshahi, 41 in Rangpur, 126 in Barishal, and 5 in Sylhet.
Currently, 2,831 people are receiving treatment for dengue in various hospitals across the country.
Of these, 967 are in Dhaka, while 1,864 are in other districts.
The highest number of dengue cases occurred in September, with 15,866 admissions and 76 deaths. In October, as of Tuesday, 14,363 people have been admitted to hospitals, and 55 have died.
As the outbreak continues to spread, authorities urge the public to take preventive measures and seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms.
