Bangladesh reported three more dengue-related deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 233 so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
All the three deaths were reported from areas under Dhaka South City Corporation and one from Dhaka North.
In its latest update, the DGHS also confirmed 857 new hospitalisations across the country, bringing the total number of dengue-related admissions this year to 55,416.
September has been the deadliest month this year, with 15,866 hospital admissions and 76 deaths reported. From October 1 to 13 alone, 8,074 people have been hospitalised with the virus, and 35 deaths recorded.
Of the 857 new patients reported during the 24 hours, 285 were from Dhaka city, 134 from other parts of Dhaka Division, 87 from Chattogram, 76 from Rajshahi, 60 from Khulna, 39 from Mymensingh, 7 from Rangpur, 163 from Barishal, and 6 from Sylhet.
Currently, 2,622 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals nationwide, including 963 in Dhaka and 1,659 in other regions.
The DGHS has been monitoring dengue cases since 2000. The deadliest outbreak to date occurred in 2023, when a record 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths were reported.
