Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ has claimed the UK’s Christmas Number One album spot, marking a milestone moment for the legendary band more than five decades after the record’s original release.
The album, first issued in 1975, returned to the top of the Official Albums Chart following the release of new digital and physical editions celebrating its 50th anniversary. The chart-topping achievement was confirmed on Friday, December 19.
The success is particularly notable as Wish You Were Here did not reach Number One when it was first released. Its return to the top means Pink Floyd now hold the record for the longest gap between a band’s first and most recent Number One albums in the UK, spanning more than 50 years.
Guitarist David Gilmour marked the occasion on social media, expressing his delight at the album’s festive chart success and thanking listeners for continuing to connect with the band’s music decades on.
