Half a century after its original release on September 12, 1975, Pink Floyd are celebrating ‘Wish You Were Here’ with a lavish 50th anniversary reissue.
The new edition, titled ‘Wish You Were Here 50’, is slated to arrive on December 12 in multiple formats including a deluxe box set, 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray and digital.
Billed as offering “a new perspective” on one of the band’s most beloved albums, the collection features six previously unheard demos and alternate versions at its core. Among the highlights is an early demo of ‘Welcome to the Machine’, then called ‘The Machine Song’, released September 12 to mark the announcement.
The reissue also includes 25 bonus tracks, with nine rare studio recordings and 16 live cuts from Pink Floyd’s April 26, 1975 concert at Los Angeles Sports Arena. Long known through bootlegs by taper Mike Millard, the show is now officially available for the first time, newly restored and remastered by Steven Wilson.
Fans can also revisit the band’s 1975 tour visuals via three restored screen films and a short by longtime Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson, all available on Blu-ray. The deluxe box set expands further with exclusive clear vinyl, the Live at Wembley 1974 LP, a replica Japanese 7-inch of Have a Cigar / Welcome to the Machine, a hardcover photo book, comic book tour programme and a Knebworth concert poster.
A new Dolby Atmos mix by James Guthrie, whose work with Pink Floyd dates back to ‘The Wall’, will be available on digital platforms. To accompany the release, the band will also launch anniversary merchandise and limited-edition items via their official website.
