A schoolboy died after being stabbed during a dispute in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka. Police arrested one person in connection with the killing.
The victim, Ruman, 15, died on Monday while undergoing treatment.
The stabbing occurred on Friday evening in East Rasulpur Lane of Kamrangirchar. Police arrested the accused, Saiful Islam, 20, the following day.
Ruman was the son of Jalal Fakir of Majid Fakirkandi village in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district. He was a fifth-grade student of Sunlight Kindergarten. The family currently lived in East Rasulpur Lane No 8 of Kamrangirchar.
Ramna police station officer-in-charge Golam Faruk told Times of Bangladesh that an argument broke out between seniors and juniors on Friday evening. At one stage, Saiful stabbed Ruman three times in the abdomen and once in the shoulder.
Family members rescued the injured boy and took him to the 31-bed Kamrangirchar Hospital. Doctors later referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. As Ruman required intensive care, relatives admitted him to a private hospital in Moghbazar, where he later died.
Ruman’s father filed a case for attempted murder on Saturday. Police arrested Saiful the same day during a drive.
The officer-in-charge said police have now converted the case into a murder case. Saiful gave a confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a court and is currently in custody at Keraniganj jail.
Police sent Ruman’s body to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination, the OC added.
