A Chattogram court on Wednesday ordered that alleged top-listed criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon, alias David Emon, and three of his associates be shown arrested in three cases filed with Fatikchhari Police Station.
Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 of the Chattogram District Court Saima Afrin Hima passed the order.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury confirmed the matter on Thursday afternoon.
He said one of the cases is related to firearms, in which David Emon is a named accused. Another case was filed recently, while the third case was brought against him after another accused, who was earlier arrested, allegedly named David Emon in a confessional statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
No lawyer appeared for David Emon during Thursday’s hearing, according to the prosecutor.
The accused were produced before the court, but police did not seek remand at that time. A remand petition may be filed on Sunday, he added.
Six cases under CMP Jurisdiction
Police said David Emon is an accused in six cases filed with different police stations under the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
Three of the cases were filed with Bayezid Bostami Police Station, while Bakalia, Patenga and Hathazari police stations each have one case against him.
A decision on whether David Emon will be shown arrested in a case filed over an alleged attack on the office of Digital Dot Network (DDN) is expected on Monday.
Earlier on Thursday, Chattogram District Police Superintendent Masud Alam said police would seek a 10-day remand for David Emon.
Police said David Emon was arrested from Jashore on 29 July during an operation based on information obtained while investigating the murder of Maksudul Haque Chowdhury in Chattogram’s Pahartali area.
The arrest came after investigators questioned another accused in the murder case and gathered information about the alleged movement of David Emon, according to police.
