Two workers who suffered burn injures in a fire at a salt factory in Chattogram’s Boalkhali upazila died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Didar Alam, 34, of Satgaria Para under Pashchim Gamdandi union of Boalkhali, and Mohammad Nurul Alam, 32, son of late Sirajul Islam of Sattar Majhi Bari in neighbouring Patiya upazila.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin of the CMCH police camp said the two workers died at the hospital’s Burn Unit between 8:30pm and 10pm.
The fire broke out around 11am on Thursday at Confidence Salt Ltd in the Pashchim Gamdandi area of Boalkhali while workers were engaged in installing a generator, leaving at least 10 employees injured.
The injured workers were rushed to the CMCH Burn Unit for treatment, where two later succumbed to their burn injuries. The remaining eight workers are still receiving medical care at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit. Authorities are conducting a further investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
