At least 10 workers sustained burn injuries after a fire, reportedly triggered by an electrical short circuit, broke out at Confidence Salt Factory in Boalkhali, Chattogram, on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 11am at the factory in West Gomdandi area of Boalkhali municipality.
The injured workers were rescued and taken to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Nurul Alam Ashek, in-charge of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, confirmed the incident. He said, “The victims are receiving treatment at the hospital. Five to six of them are in critical condition due to the extent of their burn injuries.”
According to preliminary information, the workers were carrying out their duties when an electrical short circuit sparked a fire, leaving them with burn injuries.
The injured victims are Didarul Alam, 32, Mohammad Zahid Hossain, 38, and Nur Nabi, 25, all from Boalkhali; Ujjwal Das, 53, of Rangunia; Mohammad Liton, 28, of Sadarghat; Sirajul Islam, 34, of Lohagara; Zahidul Alam, 42, of Raozan; Mohammad Alam, 45, of Patiya; and Mahamudul Haque, 45, and Selim Uddin, 30, both from Chandanaish.
