Gono Odhikar Parishad-nominated candidate for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) Abdul Kader Prime has withdrawn from the 13th National Parliamentary Election and extended his full support to BNP candidate and former minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
He made the announcement at a press conference at the Gono Odhikar Parishad office in Chakaria on Wednesday afternoon.
Kader, who is also the district president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and central committee secretary for Chittagong Hill Tracts and ethnic minority affairs, said he saw no need to contest against Salahuddin, citing the BNP candidate’s experience and contributions to local development.
“I believe Salahuddin Ahmed is a highly capable leader. Even though my nomination was valid, BNP has contributed significantly to the welfare of the people here,” Prime told reporters.
Addressing young voters, he urged them to support BNP and vote for its symbol, ‘Dhanner Sheesh’ (sheaf of paddy), in the 12 February election.
Gono Odhikar Parishad district leaders, including Rashed Mostofa, Arafat Chowdhury, attended the press conference.
