A Dhaka court has ordered the authorities concerned to freeze 11 bank accounts belonging to former Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu, his wife Aparajita Haque, and their related institutions.
Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court issued the order on Monday, following a hearing on an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC, information regarding various movable assets acquired in the names of Mozammel, his wife, daughter, and related organisations was uncovered during the investigations.
However, no reliable or legal source of income was found for these assets. Attempts were made to conceal the real source through the transfer and relocation of assets, which indicates money laundering offences.
The ACC further mentioned that there is a risk these assets might be transferred, deeds executed, or ownership changed by other means in the future, making it necessary to freeze the accounts to ensure a fair investigation.
