A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of immovable assets belonging to former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and his family, following allegations of illegal wealth accumulation.
The properties, located across Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Faridpur, are valued at Tk 22.66 crore.
On Sunday, Senior Special Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court, Md Sabbir Faiz, issued the order. Bench assistant of the concerned court Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the ruling.
The asset seizure covers Asaduzzaman Mia, his wife Afroza Zaman, their two sons Asif Shahadat and Asif Mahdin, daughter Ayesha Siddika, sister-in-law Parvin Sultana, Fatematuz Zohra, and brother-in-law Harisur Rahman.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) applied for the order through its assistant director, Alamgir Hossain.
The petition stated that a three-member investigation team had been appointed to probe allegations that the former commissioner and his associates acquired wealth beyond their known sources of income.
The ACC cited intelligence suggesting the accused were attempting to transfer or conceal the assets.
It urged the court to seize the properties immediately, warning that failure to do so could prevent recovery in the event of conviction and cause irreparable loss to the state.
