BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has remarked that Bangladesh is advancing towards a democratic order, and through the current election, the citizens have reclaimed their ownership of the country.

He shared these views with journalists after casting his vote at North Kattali Munshipara Government Primary School in Chittagong at 12pm on Thursday. During his remarks, he paid tribute to those whose contributions helped restore a democratic environment and established the people’s right to vote.

‘A significant step for democracy’

Regarding the significance of the polls, the BNP leader described the vote as a crucial step in re-establishing the rights of the people. He emphasised that this process enables the public to elect their representatives and a government that remains accountable to them.

During the occasion, he also recalled the roles of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Assessing the electoral environment, Khosru noted a spontaneous presence of voters and a festive atmosphere across various polling stations.

He observed widespread participation at the centres and stated that, thus far, he had not witnessed any biased or non-neutral environment during the proceedings.

Public Trust in BNP Highlighting the people’s reliance on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he stated that the public has consistently placed their trust in the party during various national crises, a sentiment he believes is being reflected in this election.

He expressed confidence that the electorate is keen to entrust the BNP with the responsibility of governing the country in the coming days. He added that similar trends were visible across all 16 constituencies in Chittagong.
