A coordination meeting on law and order has been held centring the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu), hall, and hostel elections.
Chaired by Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, the meeting took place on Thursday in the conference room of the CU Vice-Chancellor’s office.
Dr Mohammed Shamim Uddin Khan, pro-vice chancellor (academic); Dr Md Kamal Uddin, pro-vice-chancellor (administration); and Professor Dr Monir Uddin, chief election commissioner of the Cucsu and hall elections, provided essential guidelines during the meeting.
The vice-chancellor said, “After taking office, we successfully organised a grand convocation based on students’ interests. Our next priority was the Cucsu election. I hope it will also be successfully completed.
“However, to ensure fair and peaceful polls, the sincere cooperation of the law enforcement agencies is crucial. If we can successfully conduct the Cucsu election, it will reflect the long-standing hopes and aspirations of the students. We will all witness a new chapter in our history. I ask for everyone’s full cooperation.”
Dr Monir Uddin, the chief election commissioner, stated, “After 36 years, the Cucsu election will be held. The interest of all students is centered on this election. We aim to provide the students with a fair and smooth election.
“We have already held a meeting with the students regarding the election code of conduct. We received an overwhelming response from the students, and we hope for a festive and participatory election.”
The meeting was attended by deans of various faculties, Cucsu election commissioners, the proctor, assistant proctors, hall provosts, and others.
At the meeting, Professor Dr Ariful Haque Siddiqui presented detailed information about the elections.
Members of the Chittagong University Proctorial Body then presented the security details related to the university, including where and how many law enforcement personnel would be needed at various spots.
Alongside Cucsu Election Commissioner and Member Secretary Professor Dr AKM Ariful Haque Siddique, law enforcement officials including Chattogram Range DIG’s office Superintendent of Police Chailau Marma, Chattogram district Additional Superintendent of Police of Md Sirajul Islam, SP of Hathazari camp of RAB-7 Md Saifur Rahman, DC of Chattogram Metropolitan Police CTSB Md Golam Ruhul Kuddus, assistant police superintendent of Chattogram District PBI Abu Zafar Md Omar Faruk, Assistant Police Superintendent of Chattogram GRP Md Rizwan Saeed Jiku, Deputy Director of DGFI Chattogram Mostak Ahmed, and many others were present.
